If I shot someone innocently, I'd do everything I could to make sure they lived even if I was a selfish asshole so I could protect ME. It seems he asked for a support officer (for himself?) but nobody checks on the guy for five and a half minutes. He shot without warning and then FAILED to even check on the man. Of course my anecdote doesn't equal data but this is a veteran police officer who shot someone who was not quickly advancing on him, was not being verbally or physically aggressive, nor was he failing to follow instructions. He was doing so because he was caught, not because he suddenly saw the light that rape was wrong. I've seen patients brought in to the emergency department by the police while caught in the act of a crime (thinking specifically of a rapist but he's not the only one) who was crying, puking, sweating, and ready to pass out.
